Joanne Harris Salon specialises in Hairpieces and Wigs in the Chester area and has been established for over 20 years.

We specialise in women’s wigs and alternative headwear throughout Cheshire and the UK for both private customers and NHS clients.  Our service is also available for men.

The Salon is part of the wonderful “MyNewHair” network of salons founded and inspired by Trevor Sorbie MBE.

Can I get a wig on the NHS?

The National Health Service (NHS) makes provision for the supply of wigs to patients who need them throughout most areas of the UK.

In order to qualify for an NHS wig you will need to have a referral from your local hospital or GP.

How much will I have to pay?

England

NHS prescriptions for wigs are reviewed yearly on 1st April which are now set locally, but may still be approximately based on the last fixed charges which are as follows:

• Stock modacrylic wig – £68.50
• Partial human hair wig – £182.50
• Full bespoke human hair wig – £266.90

There are, however, exemptions to paying prescription charges and the hospital will be able to advise you but don’t be too shy to ask!

The NHS Choices website gives detailed information regarding help with costs. If there is difficulty in paying you should complete form WF1 obtainable from your hospital Surgical Appliance Officer and help can often be received.
